Allegrini Palazzo della Torre 2006

Allegrini, Veronese IGT, Palazzo Della Torre 2006 The nose features fruit of a New World character with the complexity of fresh berries and those of a more raisined nature. In the mouth this wine is supple, featuring ripe tannins and zippy acidity. There’s also a thickness, a richness, a depth that gives great value for money – very nice.

70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese are harvested from the Palazzo Della Torre vineyard. 70% of the crop is harvested in early September and vinified straight away while the rest is harvested in late October and dries until just after Christmas. These dried grapes are pressed and reintroduced to the young wine and another ferment kicks off in early January, adding body and richness to the final wine. Aged in oak for 15 months. Estate Bottled in Fumane di Valpolicella 13.5% purchased for $19.49 at Bottle Barn Allegrini

I agree Ray, a great value for the money. It’s also great that Allegrini makes and imports good quantities of the Palazzo della Torre. I’ve noted that Allegrini wines have a tendency to shed their baby fat quickly and begin to exhibit wonderfully complex bottle aged aromas with short cellaring periods. The 2004 Allegrini La Grola is also a great example of the quality and value that these wines can offer.
