Robert Weil Riesling 1999

Robert Weil, Rheingau, Riesling, Kabinett, Trocken 1999 The smell of this wine combines petrol and dried apricots. In the mouth, there is racy acidity, the zip of lime juice and an added creamy complexity. The flavor goes on very long and is just delicious. There is a reminder of the honey-like character that comes out in aged Hunter Semillon, a sense of richness without sweetness and acidic nerve ever-present.

This wine was harvested at the earlier picking level of kabinett and then vinified dry and thus sports the word trocken on the label.  Drinking this elicits a fond memory of visiting the estate in Kiedrich years ago. Weil is a top producer and shows their care for quality in even their inexpensive bottlings.

After 10 years, this wine is not on the downhill side of the hill but rather on a peak that will last.  I’m not sorry we drank it but I do wish that I had more of it to enjoy. This was the last of a case that I had purchased for a pittance some years ago at K&L.  Erzeugerabfullung in Kiedrich 11% $?? (I can’t remember but not more than $20 and maybe only $15?).  Weingut Robert Weil
