Bella Syrah

Bella, Alexander Valley, Big River Ranch, Syrah 2005 There’s jammy black fruit in the nose and a little bit of tar and reductive character when first open. In the mouth, the wine is chewy and oaky with a bit of bitterness. P&B in Healdsburg 14.9% $40 at the winery but alas sold out.

Bella, Dry Creek Valley, Lilly Hill, Estate, Syrah 2005 This Syrah is a also showing the meatier, more reductive side of Syrah in the nose. The mouth features a nice frame of acidity around the red fruits,. There’s an elegance to this wine, where the edges are softened, the tannins there but ripe, and flavor filling out the whole palate. P&B in Healdsburg 14.8% $38 at the winery but alas sold out.

Both of the Syrah are aged for 16 months in oak, 20% of which is new and the split is 60% French and 40% American.
