Artadi Vinas de Gain 2005

Artadi Vinedos & Vinos, Rioja DOC Vinas de Gain 2005 The wine is a bit reductive and needs some air. With a bit of airing, there is a green spice/herbal character in the nose while the fruit is still buried in the background. Give it 20 minutes and the black currents start to emerge. In the mouth there is great density inside a rather big structure – plenty of tannin to chew on and acidity to frame the extract. Give this a rest in the cellar for the next 5 years if you can wait. The grape behind this wine is Tempranillo from 25 year-old vines planted at at 680 metres elevation. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak. Embotellado in Laguardia 13.5% $25.49 at Bottle Barn Artadi
