Bracing Wine

Domaine Les Hautes Noëlles Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu sur lie 2006
The last vintage tasted, 2004 was very clean and bursting with acidity. Again tonight with the 2006, this wine struts its acidity with a freshness of fruit to smell in the nose. Mis par Serge Batard in St Léger Les Vignes, imp. to US by North Berkeley 12% $9.69 at Bottle Barn Hautes Noelles

Domaine des Baumard Savennières 2004
A hard wine at this youthful stage, this wine is quite dry between the acid level and the sense of phenolic grab on the tongue. There’s lime and melon to smell as well as a beeswax character. This 100% Chenin Blanc is sourced from slate and limestone south-facing slopes quite close to Angers, all stainless, mis par Baumard, viticulteur in Rochefort sur Loire 13% $16.99 at Bottle Barn Baumard
