New and Old World Gewurztraminer

This flight features two very different incarnations of this grape; both well-done yet very different.

Domaine Zind Humbrecht, Alsace, Gewurztraminer 2008 The nose features roses galore, a spicy floral production with honey and tropical fruit in the mix as well. In the mouth you’ll find a moderate amount of sweetness and a very broad, low acid palate with a touch of Gewurz’s characteristic bitterness – nice. Produced and bottled at the domaine in Turckheim 14% purchased for $18.99 at Bottle Barn

Fetzer, California, Gewurztraminer 2009 This is a sweet Gewurz that emphasizes fresh tropical fruit with a nice shot of acidity providing balance – nice. Winemaker Dennis Martin. Vinted and bottled in Hopland 12% purchased for $6.99 at Bottle Barn Fetzer Vineyards
