Burgundy 2005

Domaine de Montille, Bourgogne 2005 Mint combines with vibrant red fruits in the nose. The mouth is quite concentrated, full of acidity and a tannic veneer. Lay this down for a few years. This is from the famous De Montille family. Mis en bouteille a Volnay. 13% $34.99 at the Wine Club

Domaine Robert Arnoux, Nuits-Saint-Georges, 1er Cru Les Proces 2005 The nose is a bit closed at the moment while the mouth dislays the suppleness and richness that I expected. Tasting the wines in Burgundy last March, there was a steady theme to the domaine’s taming of the tannins that can hide the beauty that is Pinot in Burgundy. The challenge for this wine in this flight is that it is tough to justify paying 3 times what we would for the Montille, which was absolutely packed with flavor for one-third of the price. Also, on reflection, the alcohol was really starting to show on day 2, signaling that this particular wine just doesn’t have the necessary concentration.
