Petaluma Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay 2004

Petaluma, Piccadilly Valley, Chardonnay 2004 The nose offers toastiness, freshly split oak and vanilla with a sense of ripe, tropical fruit. In the mouth the viscosity is matched by steely acidity, combining the best of Burgundian austerity and Australian flamboyance.

I’ve been a fan of Petaluma since Brian Croser paid a visit to our class at Uni Adelaide. He truly demonstrated his point of his wines having a worthy comparison to the stars of Burgundy.

I wrote a long piece about that experience in one of my newsletters long ago. It’s such a treat to come back to that memory and relive it through another stellar Petaluma Chardy.  Special thanks to Jason German and Suzanne Starke for this lovely gift.

Piccadilly ValleyThe fruit for this wine comes from 7 sites in the Piccadilly Valley from vines at least 25 years old. Produced and bottled in Piccadilly, South Australia, not far from Adelaide 14.5% $29.99 at wine.com a long time ago before selling out. If you still have this in the cellar it has more time ahead so don’t feel compelled to open it this year.
