Petaluma, Piccadilly Valley, Chardonnay 2004 The nose offers toastiness, freshly split oak and vanilla with a sense of ripe, tropical fruit. In the mouth the viscosity is matched by steely acidity, combining the best of Burgundian austerity and Australian flamboyance.
I’ve been a fan of Petaluma since Brian Croser paid a visit to our class at Uni Adelaide. He truly demonstrated his point of his wines having a worthy comparison to the stars of Burgundy.

The fruit for this wine comes from 7 sites in the Piccadilly Valley from vines at least 25 years old. Produced and bottled in Piccadilly, South Australia, not far from Adelaide 14.5% $29.99 at wine.com a long time ago before selling out. If you still have this in the cellar it has more time ahead so don’t feel compelled to open it this year.
