Sonoma County Harvest Fair 2009 white wine stars

Taft Street, Russian River Valley, Pinot Gris 2008 The glass is filled with perfume and cotton candy – a very pretty Pinot Gris.  In the mouth it is moderately acidic and tastes of citrus overlaid with flowers. P&B in Sebastopol 14.1% $11.99 at Bottle Barn Taft Street

Kunde Estate, Sonoma Valley, Destination Series, Gewurztraminer 2008 This is an exciting wine, spot-on with roses and lychee. This is the style of Gewurz with a moderate level of RS and actually a nice complement of acidity. I was pulling for this wine to be the Sweepstake white winner at the competition but Gewurz suffers a certain Rodney Dangerfield syndrome. That’s a shame when there are brilliant examples like this one. G, P & B in Kenwood 13.1% $11.99 at Bottle Barn Kunde
