V for Vernaccia

Written by Ray Johnson

Casa Alle Vacche, Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, I Macchioni, 2007 There is a New World ripe expression of fruit in the nose, along with perfume, green herbs and some minerality. In the mouth there is ample acidity with some thick, fleshy fruit as well to fill it out. There is a little phenolic grip, like biting into the grape skin, which might be a result of the extended contact of skin to juice after pressing.

Notes from the previous vintage: Clean almost tropical fruit and crisp. Very nice. In May ‘08 the ’06 is evolving though still fruity and quite crisp.

Vernaccia as well as a bit of other undisclosed varieties (10% are permitted in the DOCG zone) grown at an elevation of 210-280 metres. This is the estate’s middle tier Vernaccia. Bot. by the Ciappi family in San Gimignano 13% $15.99 at Traverso’s Casa Alle Vacche
