Red style

Like white wine, red wine comes in many shapes and sizes, from the silky, flowing ribbons to brawny, square-jawed brawlers. Here are 3 takes on red wine style.

Lincourt Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2004

Easy drinking cherries in a glass. This wine is a compilation of fruit from the Santa Maria Valley and the Rancho Santa Rosa property that is featured on Foley’s own-labeled wines from the famous Sta. Rita Hills. The wine was aged in French oak, 24% of it new. P&B in Solvang 14.2% $22 at the winery Lincourt

Roth Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Black fruit in a cigar box with structure to last. Sporting the expertise of the same people at Lancaster, this is the value-leaning brand of the house. 15% Merlot augments the Cabernet which is all aged in French oak for 1.5 years, 30% of which is new. Winemaker Jennifer Higgins. V&B in Healdsburg 14.5% $40 at the winery Roth

Earthquake Lodi Petite Sirah 2004

Follow this link to the post when we tasted this wine back in October 2007: Here we go

Let’s see how this wine is showing 8 months later. Tonight the tannin is jutting out more than last year but the sweet oaky notes more than compensate, making this wine a big hit.
