Red Wines of Lake County

Six Sigma, Lake County, Cuvee Pique-Nique 2007 As the name implies, this wine is fruity and immediately accessible, light-bodied and quaffable, with underlying acidity to make it refreshing and some earthiness to give it complexity.

Proprietors Else and Kaj Ahlmann. Winemaker Matt Hughes. Produced and bottled in Lower Lake 13.4% $28 at the Blue Wing. Six Sigma Ranch

Shed Horn Cellars, Lake County, Zinfandel 2008 The nose features jammy, candy-like fruit while the mouth is a supple display of the same – very nice. Produced and bottled in Middletown 14.5% $30 at the Blue Wing Shed Horn Cellars

Ceago Vinegarden, Clear Lake, Del Lago, Estate Grown, Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 The nose features Cassis and chocolate with a bit of tobacco. In the mouth Cabernet’s tannic structure shows itself with black fruit to match – very nice. The grapes behind this wine are all grown biodynamically in between the towns of Nice and Lucerne on the north shore of Clear Lake. Proprietor Jim Fetzer. Bottled in Redwood Valley 14.5% $32 at the Blue Wing Ceago Vinegarden
