California Sauvignon Blanc – super size

Both of these wines fill a role in providing inexpensive white wine for the equivalent of less than $5.00 per 750ml bottle. While there are similarities between the two wines, the styling is different.

Sutter Home, California, Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Citrus and some of Sauvignon’s sweatiness mark the nose. With ten minutes the fruitiness becomes more pronounced. In the mouth this wine is light-bodied and a touch sweet, with a little bit of a candy-like character. Vinted and bottled in Napa 13.5% $6.99 for a 1.5 litre bottle, purchased at Bottle Barn Sutter Home Winery

Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi, California, Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Give this a bit of air to blow off a bit of reductive character. With time the fruit emerges alongside a grassy character.  In the mouth it is acidic and moderately concentrated. Vinted and bottled in Woodbridge 12.5% $9.59 for a 1.5 litre bottle, purchased at Bottle Barn Woodbridge Winery
