Calera, Mt. Harlan, Viognier 2008 The smell of this wine is rather entrancing. There’s the peachy fruit associated with Viognier, a nice sense of sweet flowers and enriching notes like vanilla and brown spices. In the mouth it is warm and displays a sensuous version of Viognier, where the bells and whistles of the winemaker contribute a great deal to the end product. I’m a great fan of this winery but the warmth of the alcohol will be too much for some.
The grapes behind this wine are certified organic and grown in the Gavilan Mountains up at 2,200 feet elevation. The wine went through full malolactic and was aged for 10 months in older French oak barrels.
