King Estate Oregon Pinot Gris 2007

King Estate, Oregon, Signature Collection, Pinot Gris 2007 In the nose I found tropical fruit, I swear it smelled like lychee. Also there was a spicy floral note, like geranium leaves with some grass and a bit of mint. In the mouth I tasted mango, orange with a touch of residual sugar. The palate was round and rich, with many layers of fruit rather with no overt sense of malolcatic or oak.

King Estate WineryLooking at the technical notes on the current release ’08, the winery does ferment in stainless and then ages the wine in a combo of new and used oak enhancing complexity and richness without smothering the beautiful fruit – very nice. Produced and bottled in Eugene by King Etsate Winery

This 375ml bottle was purchased and enjoyed with lunch at the Monterey Bay Aquarium on Thanksgiving Day. Portola CafeThe price on the wine list was $16.

The food was good, not spectacular, but good. And it was a luxury to savor a leisurely meal in the middle of a day of walking the length and breadth of the property.
