Chalk Hill Sauvignon 2006

Chalk Hill Estate Winery, Chalk Hill, Sonoma County, Estate Bottled, Sauvignon Blanc 2006 This wine is quite smoky and full of toasty notes. In the mouth, the impression is of richness, a wine that is quite viscous despite the suppression of malolactic fermentation. There’s a bit of citrus zip to balance the richness, a lingering taste of lemons and lemon zest.

Back in the days when I sold wine at Safeway, I could always count on this wine to be a rich expression of the grape. Today the standard carries on, making this wine more akin to Bordeaux than Sancerre, as the winery intends.

The wine was barrel fermented, aged sur lie for 10 months and given weekly battonage. Grown, Produced & Bottled in Healdsburg 14.4% $24.69 at Bottle Barn
