Robert Young Merlot 2005

Robert Young, Alexander Valley, Merlot 2005

California Merlot in which the fruit is alive and the acidity is not shy – now that is beautiful. A bit of leafiness and caramel complements the fruit, adding complexity. There’s a hint of tannin in ripe way and the acidity carries the flavors a long way – very nice. The grapes are all Merlot and the wine was aged in French oak for 18 months. Kelly Pafford took us on tour through the wines and the property on Saturday. They’re in a gem of a spot in the bucolic Alexander Valley. P&B in Geyserville 14.5% $50 at the winery Robert Young Estate Winery
