Navarro Pinot Gris

Navarro, Anderson Valley, Mendocino, Pinot Gris 2006 The nose sports candied citrus and tropical notes while the mouth is fruity and round with a spark of acidity. The time in bottle has added some nice complexity to a wine that we often drink before that can develop.

While taking a long weekend in Mendocino, we purchased a bottle of the ’06 at Frankie’s. I had just finished posting the my notes on the Weil and Magnien from the previous evening, my cup of tea was empty and the time had passed 6:00 p.m. so it seemed right to order a glass of wine. A bottle of the Navarro Pinot Gris was only $24 so it seemed silly to order two glasses, thus I have a little left in the bottle tonight to retaste as I post these notes. P&B in Philo 13.6% $19 at the winery.

Visit Frankie’s when you are in Mendocino – they have wireless access, delicious pizza made with real fresh herbs and Linda says the ice cream is great for an afternoon treat. Frankie’s

Navarro, Anderson Valley, Mendocino, Pinot Gris 2007 The freshness of the fruit leaps out of this youthful wine. The floral notes are full-on and intertwined with the tropical and citrus fruit. This wine is quite crisp and refreshing – delicious.

Tasted about one year later, on April 23, 2010, this wine is even better. The edges are rounding off, adding a richer textural element – very nice. P&B in Philo 13.6% $19 at the winery. We stopped by the winery on the way home to buy this and some other gems that I’ll be writing about and sharing in an upcoming class. Navarro
