Sauvignon that sings

from the tasting room

Dutcher Crossing, Dry Creek Valley, Sauvignon Blanc 2007 This Sauvignon smells of sweet and ripe tropical fruit. The fresh fruit continues on the palate where there is a softer, rounder feel than with many Sauvignon. Don’t get me wrong, I love an in-your-face, herbaceous, acid-dominated Sauvignon as much as the next fellow. But isn’t it nice to find one that is a bit more luscious?

Winemaker Danny Glover attributes the freshness in the nose and the roundness of the palate to his blending of 3% Viognier and 3% Semillon into the mix, with a short stint in barrel at the end.

Plan a visit to the winery on a sunny day. The views out from the tasting room are impressive from the winery’s vantage point on Dry Creek Road. After tasting the line and buying a bottle, you can take in the view from the picnic tables out back. Pack a gourmet lunch from the Oakville Grocery in downtown Healdsburg so you can stay in the valley for the rest of the afternoon. Does it get better than this? Dutcher Crossing
