3 Looks at Burgundian Chardonnay

This flight features Chardonnay from 3 respected producers. There is an inexpensive Macon, a more formidable Puligny and lastly a Chablis with some age on it.

Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Macon 2006
This wine embodies the citrus side of Chardonnay with a light body and plenty of acidity. Produced from biodynamically grown grapes in the Macon and overseen by Dominique Lafon, star of Meursault. Mis in Milly-Lamartine 14% $18.99 at K&L Comtes Lafon

Paul Pernot Puligny-Montrachet 2006
In late ’07 I wrote:  This is absolutely an oak bomb yet the oak is supported by dense core of extract and lots of racy acidity – a wine that is rich while refreshing. Now in September of ’08, there’s a nutty complexity coming on in the nose. In the mouth the acidity, while still there, is softening into a rounder wine. Mis in Puligny by Paul Pernot et ses fils Michel and Paul 14.2% $37.99 at Bottle Barn

Domaine Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis Premier Cru Vaillon 1999
This is full of nuttiness – a very complex wine with notes of minerality and earth with long acidity. M. Defaix is a generous host and several of his back vintages have been available on the current market. 13% $39.99 at K&L Defaix
