Domaine Les Pallieres Gigondas 2003
This has been a consistent performer at a more affordable price than the well-made Brunier wines from CDP. The last bottle tasted earlier in 2007 was good again, but the tannic astringency at that time seemed out of balance with the density of flavour. Tonight we try it again to see where the 6 months has taken the taste profile. Again it is quite astringent yet it works with a sense of the oak and black pepper adding to the flavors. Sourced from their single estate of northwest facing hillside terraces in the district of Les Pallieres. The site is partly covered by limestone slides from Les Dentelles de Montmirail. The vines average 50 years of age and are planted 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault. Aged 6-8 months in foudres. Mis par Brunier in Gigondas 14.5% $26.00 at Traverso’s Brunier
