Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Domaine André Vatan, Sancerre, Les Charmes 2006

The style point has always been lean and green, offering a sense of the appellation without the over $20 price of the more concentrated offerings. Today’s wine offered riper fruit flavors that are just delicious. There’s a sense of lemons and grapefruit with lots of refreshing acidity. André Vatan is a generous and gregarious man who also makes wood aged Sancerre at a higher price point. Mis in Chaudoux, Verdigny-en-Sancerre in Cher 12.9% $15.99 at Bottle Barn

Pascal Jolivet Pouilly-Fume 2005
A solid performer in previous vintages. Today’s wine showed the flintiness and minerality you might expect, with a hint of the alcohol as the fruit is dropping away. This wine is sourced from the estate’s almost 20 acres near the villages of Tracy and Les Loges. 12.5% $19.69 at Bottle Barn Pascal Jolivet
