Italian Bubbles

This flight demonstrates the contrasting taste profiles in the methode champenoise wines of Franciacorta and the tank feremented Prosecco of the Veneto.

Bellavista, Franciacorta, Cuvee Brut nv
Fresh and dry, this wine is 80% Chardonnay, with the balance Pinot Bianco and some Pinot Nero with reserve wines. P&B in Erbusco 12.5% $29.95 at Traverso’s Bellavista

Ruggeri, Prosecco di Valdobbiadene, Gold Label, Extra-Dry nv
Bubble gum personified and very light bodied is my typical take on this wine.

Bot in Valdobbiadene 11% purchased for $14.99 at Traverso’s in October ’07 and $15.99 in July 2010.

Ca’ del Bosco, Franciacorta, Brut nv
Previous bottlings were noted as having long lasting flavors of green apple and lemon with rocking acidity. This profile came through again with added complexity. This wine makes a great alternative to high-acid styles of Champagne and is price competitive with the French. 80% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Blanc and 10% Pinot Nero, the reserve wines are aged in small oak barrels, the final blend is en tirage for almost 2 years and the dosage is 7 g/l. Bottled in Erbusco 12.5% $32.95 at Traverso’s.
