Alba and Asti – Certainly not AA

Michele Chiarlo Barbera d’Asti Superiore Le Orme DOC 2005
As we found with the 2003, the wine displays textbook acidity in a very light bodied package with a bit of earthiness and some tannin. This works as a budget Barbera though won’t delight very many people as it lacks concentration. 13% the 2003 was only $9.99 at Bottle Barn and the 2005 was an importer sample chiarlo.it

Matteo Correggia Barbera d’Alba DOC 2004
Herbaceous light body and some chemical notes that could be hinting at sulphur issues. The previous 2 bottles earlier in the year were rather funk-struck as well and didn’t go down well with the class. Today the wine in July ’08 has settle down and the fruit is coming uncovered and the acidity is textbook. Estate bottled in Canale 13.5% $19.50 at Traverso’s
