Gini Soave Classico DOC 2005

Stone fruit characteristics yet losing freshness – disappointing compared to previous tasting of the same vintage.  Yet, all is not lost.  I just purchased another bottle, same vintage same source, and the wine is spot on.  There is a lovely smell of sweet peaches.  The mouth shows the same fresh peach character.

I had a hunch that the problem with the previous bottle, tasted earlier in the week, my be TCA.  But I wasn’t sure as the corkiness wasn’t over.  Upon retasting the tainted bottle after class I just couldn’t get away from the astringency on the palate, which proposed to me that there might be cork taint.  Alas this I think has been bourne out by the purity of the new bottle.  Hallelujah!  100% Garganega from vineyards averaging 40 years of age; cool fermentation in ss, no malolactic and lees contact for 6 months in tank, Estate bot in Monteforte D’Alpone, brothers Sandro and Claudio Gini 12.5% $17.99 at Traverso’s ginivini.com
