Dr. Loosen, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Wehlener, Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Kabinett 2007 This wine epitomizes the beautiful sweetart character that many of these Rieslings display. Selbach-Oster, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Zeltinger, Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Spatlese, Trocken 2007 Another top and consistent producer from the Mosel. The fruit just leaps out of the glass with a candied character. The wine has lots of acidity and full flavor development so that the fruit is out front with just a touch of RS. Owner/Winemaker Johannes Selbach. Gutsabfullung [...]

Domaine Marcel Deiss, Alsace, Burg 2002 The wine has aged prematurely with a cork that failed to seal completely. Unfortunately, the fruit is drying out and there’s a bit of nail polish. There’s bruised peach character in the mouth and bitterness with the light residual sugar. It’s too bad the cork let this wine down. [...]

Trimbach, Alsace, Cuvee Frederic Emile, Riesling 2001 The development of vaseline is quite evident in the nose. In the mouth the wine is dry with great concentration, minerality, a hardness that speaks youthfulness 7 years on and lots of acidity carrying the flavors of limes and lemons a long time. The average age of the [...]

Angeline, Russian River Valley, Sauvignon Blanc 2007 In the nose there are the competing smells of citrus, candy, flowers and a bit of mown grass. You taste the citrus with a sense of the lemon zest as well. There’s a frame of acidity as well to make this wine refreshing. This 100% Sauvignon comes to [...]

Firestone, Central Coast, Vineyard Select, Riesling 2006 The smell of stone fruits and citrus greets you in the glass. In the mouth the wine is fresh, moderately acidic and graced by obvious residual sugar. The acid levels will seem faint to those who live on the Rieslings from the Eden and Clare in South Australia. Trimbach, Alsace, Pinot Blanc 2005 Light floral notes mark the nose and the mouth has a rather creamy texture, very little residual sugar, a moderate amount of acid and the taste of stone fruits; it’s nice and simple for the price. Mis en bouteille a Ribeauville 12.5% $11.79 at Bottle Barn Trimbach

Gunderloch, Rheinhessen, Jean-Baptiste, Riesling, Kabinett QmP 2002 This wine goes on after 6 years since the harvest, despite evidence of leaking and a then newish screwcap seal that appears to not have been perfect. There are notes of lanolin and citrus fruit to smell. The mouth tastes of tart green fruit, still possessing a zippy [...]

Henschke Eden Valley Julius Riesling 2006
